Rest & Self care
Post author: MJ Jones
Rest or self care days are so important especially for those who struggle mentally, chronically, or those who are neurodivergent. Of course, that isn’t to say that others can’t have rest breaks. Rest days are for everyone.
Something a lot of us do, myself included, is push ourselves until we are burnt out. We want to be productive, we want to get everything done and then we just end up pushing ourselves until we physically can’t do it anymore.
Some of us have days, weeks or even months where we are so burnt out that we make ourselves feel worse because we want to be doing things but we can’t.

Mental health struggles start at any age. Maybe you hate your job and are really struggling with it or you were bullied at school.
According to a data survey, ⅙ people in the UK have a mental health disorder every year.
Don’t think that just because someone out there is struggling more than you that you don’t deserve rest. Everyone deserves rest!
The problem with comparison is that you’re comparing yourself to someone who’s life you don’t know fully. On social media, for example, we only see a snippet of someone’s life. We don’t see everything. So when we are comparing ourselves to others, we don’t know what’s going on behind the camera.
We all have our lives and our own experiences. Just because someone seems to be similar to you, doesn’t mean it’s the same.
Now for the most important takeaway of all of this:
You deserve rest and self care even if it’s days; as long as you need. You are allowed to take care of yourself.
