David’s Story

With a stressful, emotional job and personal bereavement David’s* mental health was sadly at an all-time low. But one day when he was feeling very distressed, he picked up the phone to Conwy Mind and instantly heard a voice he could trust and feel safe with.

David’s job for over 30 years involved attending incidents of a medical nature, some of which were both highly stressful and disturbing. As you can imagine, this line of work would start to take its toll.

On top of this David unfortunately lost both his parents and brother in a short space of time. He was fearful of being seen as weak or incapable of doing his job, so he shielded himself and hid his mental health issues away. He was worried about the social stigma and negative perception to admitting to mental health issues. But thankfully, one day he picked up the phone and spoke to Mark at Conwy Mind.

David said…

“Since contacting Conwy Mind and speaking to Mark with his support calls my life has completely turned around.  The patience and empathy shown to me has been overwhelming, to suddenly be listened to, believed and to have both my life and self-worth validated again has given me the desire to rebuild my life.”

David would have weekly support calls with Mark that he said helped him to move on with his life. He has since married his girlfriend; they bought a house together and they’re even starting to look into setting up their own business. He is still aware of the trauma he has suffered but Conwy Mind helped him put all of that into perspective.

Mark still calls David occasionally to check in and like anyone who accesses our services, we will be here for them, as long as they need us.

When asked how Conwy Mind has helped him David said…

“Conwy Mind has helped not only regain my ‘sanity’ but given me a new life, one I am happy with. The support service that Conwy Mind offer is invaluable and lifesaving.”
