Mark’s Story

As apart of Volunteers Week we’re honoured to introduce you to another one of our fantastic volunteers – Mark!

We are lucky enough to have had Mark volunteering with us since 2011 and he has been a huge help ever since. Mark initially came to Conwy Mind as someone who needed our support as he sadly found himself struggling with his own mental health and feeling unwell. Once he received the support and felt able to do so, he approached us and asked about volunteering opportunities.

Mark said he wanted to start volunteering for Conwy Mind to help his own mental health, he had realised he needed a new focus to get himself feeling better. From using our services, he had also grown to trust Conwy Mind so knew the staff and other volunteers would treat him with respect and kindness. From his own mental health journey he also became fascinated with the nature of mental health and wanted to learn more.

When asked what Mark enjoys most about volunteering for Conwy Mind he said

I enjoy the ordinary everyday contact with people. Some of them have become friends and associates. I also enjoy the closeness and camaraderie I feel with those who you have so much in common with.

Mark is such a dedicated volunteer who helps out at least once a week, or even more when needed! He attends our coffee mornings, Walk and Talk, Friends of Conwy Mind and helps out on information stands and fundraising events whenever he can!

Mark also spoke fondly of how caring Conwy Mind are for their volunteers and said

I once came in to a drop in to volunteer for Conwy Mind out of sorts, a bit confused. Everyone was so concerned about me and supported me. I was touched by there interest in my wellness. Your not just someone fulfilling a volunteer role for Conwy Mind, they care for your welfare.

Mark advices anyone to get involved with volunteering, not just at Conwy Mind – any charity! Giving is one of the Five ways to Wellbeing and volunteering and giving your time really can improve your own mental health. His piece of advice when volunteering is to choose a charity that has proper training, where they treat you with the respect you deserve for giving your time and experience.

We have truly found a gem with Mark and are so grateful for his 12 years of dedication and commitment to Conwy Mind!

THANK YOU MARK!
