What a day, what a team!
On Sunday 21st May we ended Mental Health Awareness Week with an uplifting, positive walk! We welcomed 40 walkers to the St Georges Hotel where we gathered in our groups before setting off on our 10k walk around the beautiful Great Orme in Llandudno.
All our walkers got the memo and wore our Conwy Mind colours – blue! Luckily, the weather also got the memo and all we could see was beautiful, blue skies and sunshine! A member of staff who was at the back of the walkers commented how it amazing it was to see a line of people all wearing blue walking up the Orme.
On our walk we had staff, volunteers, supporters of the charity and a number of people who had used our services and wanted to give back. A mother and daughter signed up after the daughter completed our active monitoring programme and was really happy with the support she received so her and her mother wanted to give back to Conwy Mind.
Half way around the Orme we had a break and it was wonderful to see people who had never met before chatting away and mingling! Everyone was sharing their stories as to why they were taking part and supporting Conwy Mind.
Staff members walked the route with collection buckets and the generosity of passers by was incredible, some even pulled over in their cars to pop some money in the buckets!
Around 1:30pm our wonderful team of walkers starting making it to the finish line along Llandudno promenade! They were cheered and all received a certificate of thanks for their achievements, one participant said “what a great walk! It was lovely getting to know others along the way and hear what Conwy Mind means to them. It was a really amazing, feel good day!”
Overall, with registration fees, the collection buckets and fundraising page we managed to raise an incredible £687 for Conwy Mind! We’d like to say a huge thanks to everyone who took part and to everyone who donated! We can’t wait to have this as an annual event and see our line of blue walkers grow and grow!
We’d also like to say a big thank you to Greendocs who sponsored the event, with their support it meant that all event costs were covered and all money raised went direct to Conwy Mind and the services we provide!
